Cuban tourism grew 2.1 percent in the number of arrivals from January to May 2009, according to an official report published Friday.

  A report from the Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) said that the number of arrivals in the period reached more than 1.21 million people.

That amount is over the number of tourists in the five first months of 2008 in 25,323 arrivals more.

A total of 164,679 tourists arrived in Cuba in May, which represents 3.7, 12.1 and 6.2 percent respectively more, compared to equal periods in 2008, 2007 and 2006.

During the International Fair FITCUBA 2008 in this capital in May the authorities recognized that in 2008, the Cuban tourism had the best performance in history, and now they are awaiting for better results.
