World Premier of Ciudad en rojo in Havana

The anniversary paid tribute to important figures who have helped develop national cinema and presented the 2009 national prize to this year’s winner, musician Leo Brouwer.

Ciudad en rojo is based on the novel Bertillón 166 by José Soler Puig, which takes place in Santiago de Cuba during the clandestine struggle against the Batista dictatorship.

Rafael Ernesto Hernández, Eman-xor Oña, Yori Gómez, Carlos Enrique Almirante and Mario Guerra make up the all-star cast of this story where violence emerges as a viable solution to state terror.

The film, which opens in theaters across the country on April 2, is the first full-length feature by Rebeca Chávez, best known for her documentaries such as Esa invencible esperanza and Silencio... se filma Fresa y Chocolate.
