Cuba to Celebrate Francophone Week
Sponsored by the French, Belgian, Canadian, Swiss and Haitian embassies as well as the international Francophone organization the program will begin with an exhibition of images of six centuries of European paintings from the Louvre.

Headquartered in the plaza of the Castillo de la Fuerza in the historical center of Havana, the sample includes 101 photographs of works that include La Gioconda by Leonardo Da Vinci and the Beautiful Gardener by Rafael.

Other exhibitions are the French Stories, Switzerland, a country of comics and a workshop on this art form for children of primary schools.

The Cuban version of the Magic Flute by Mozart will be performed by the National Lyrical Theater under the direction of Andreas Baesler, a coproduction with Switzerland, Austria and Germany.

There will also be a concert by Swiss pianist, Michael Thalmann with pieces by Polish composer, Frederic Chopin and Hungarian Franz Liszt in the Basilica of the San Francisco de Asis Convent in Old Havana.

The films Neither Coffee, TV nor Sex by the Swiss Romed Wyder, Neighbors by French Malik Chibane and The Great Seduction by Canadian Francois Pouliot will be screened among others.

French researcher Gerard Pouchain will deliver a conference on the life and work of Victor Hugo while the anthropologist and cultural attache of the Haitian embassy will offer a conference on the writer and politician Jean Price Mars.

Jazz concerts, Haitian folkloric music, a series of conferences on anthropology and tasting French cooking, complete the program.

This program will also be taken to the eastern cities of Camaguey and Santiago de Cuba.
