Festivities for International Sports Schools Anniversary in Cuba
Cristian Jimenez, president of Cuba's Sports, Physical Education and Recreation Institute (INDER), presided over the ceremony, paying tribute to the founders of the school located in San Jose de las Lajas municipality, in La Habana province.

Jorge Polo Vazquez, rector of this higher education center, ratified the staff's commitment to continue improving their teaching for Cubans and other Third World peoples.

Vazquez explained that the new information technologies (IT) are incorporated into the teacher training process at the school.  

Arnaldo Sanchez, president of the Student Council, thanked all the institutions and persons that are part of this dream-come-true, enabling humble people from all over the world to get a degree for free in Cuba.

Different cultural and sport activities took place to celebrate the anniversary, including the sale of books, handicrafts and Cuban souvenirs, a simultaneous chess match, a running race and other initiatives of the students.

The official inauguration of the school took place on February 23rd 2001, the date of INDER's 40th anniversary. Today there are 977 students from 83 African, Asian, and Latin American and the Caribbean nations and the registration has exceeded 1,000 in previous school years.
