Local tourism authorities pointed out that improved services and a better tourist infrastructure have contributed to that interest.

In 2008, modernization works benefited 13 facilities run by the company Palmares, as well as the hotels Brisas Covarrubias, Las Tunas and Cadillac.

Covarrubias Beach offers excellent beaches of white sand and crystal-clear water, in addition to a six-kilometer coral reef inhabited by black corals and sponges.
