Varadero Ready to Receive One Million Tourists in 2008
“Thus far this year, more than 700,000 tourists have visited Varadero,” the delegate of the Tourism Ministry in Matanzas, Amado Acosta Henandez, told Granma news daily.

“There has been a steady growth since the second half of 2007 and this year we have achieved our best results, although we know that we can be more efficient,” he explained.

Acosta added that the damages caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike in Varadero were not significant and were located mainly in roofs and windows. “Now, everything is back to normal and we are ready for the high season,” he stressed.

Varadero has an accommodation capacity of 17,300 rooms and it is expected that during the peak of the high season, in February a March, a record 300,000 tourists will be staying in the world famous resort.
