Cuba reelected as UN CEDAW member
Magalys Arocha, foreign affairs secretary of the Cuban Women Federation (FMC), was elected in a 149:181 vote to fill one of the11 vacancies at the CEDAW, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement described Arocha' election as a success that shows the progress in women's efforts to promote and enjoy their rights.

Cuba was the first country to sign the Convention in July 17, 1980 and the second in ratifying it in September 1981. Cuba has been a permanent representative in the CEDAW since 1997.
