Laura González, Director of the institution, told AIN news agency that the conceived program includes introductory as well as advanced computer courses by 22 specialists.
The new computer club, equipped with some 100 computers, will be open to the public Mondays through Sundays -- free access.
Other services include a coffee shop and areas for cultural activities with children and young people.
Remodeling works on the old two-store building, belonging to the Ministry of Light Industry (MINIL), began in November 2007.
The building´s location in the old part of the city facilitates people´s access to the computer club –one of 600 social works being carried out in the Cuban eastern province.
Construction workers from the MINIL, the ECOI 11 construction company and the Company for Monument Restoration and Preservation, attached to the Provincial Assembly of People´s Power, are undertaking the important task.
Conrado Dumoys, building constructor, pointed to the collective efforts of constructors and residents to complete the task in Santiago de Cuba , venue of this year´s main celebration on occasion of the 55 th anniversary of the 1953 revolutionary attack on the Moncada barracks.
