Cuba in one of their best moments in chess in the world
Arribas, eight times Cuban National Champion, said she scored six points out of nine to achieve an average 2,453 point Elo that improves her previous 2,323 Elo.

She added that she ended 23rd among over 140 contenders with five wins, two ties and two loss, plus 20 point bonus.

As best performance are her wins on Bulgarian GM Vladimir Dimitrov (2,450) and Latvia IM Ilmar Starustits (2,497), and ties with Cuban IM Jose Angel Guerra (2,456) and Indian Siram Jha (2,429).

This was Arriba’s third involvement in Spanish Summer chess events that brace her readiness to represent Cuban at the World Championship in Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia, in August.

If this third norm is confirmed, Arribas becomes the first Cuban female to become International Master among men.

Coach IM Roquelina Fandino said Arribas just needed to surpass the 2,400 Elo to complete the minimum score.
