Polichinela Theatre Company Wins Prizes in Santiago de Cuba
During the festival, the cast directed by Yosvani Abril was awarded the recognition to best setting and the prize of the International Union of Marionettes (UNIMA) for collective handling, while the jury granted Rafael Solenzar the highest distinction to best puppet performance, with Ruandi, eponymous character of the playwright by Gerardo Fulleda León.  

Young director Yosvani Abril, said to Invasor that this year the Mahogany Mask Festival was dedicated to actress Nancy Campos Neyra from Santiago and to people’s theatre, in its relation, street and comic modalities. The meeting was attended by groups from Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Camagüey, Havana City, Granma, Isle of Youth and the hostess province, among others.

At present, the Ciego de Ávila company is engaged in staging El retablo de polichinela (The Polichinela altarpiece) which playright deals with the history of marionettes all over the world. The company is also giving alternative performances in different municipalities of Ciego de Ávila province while getting ready for a tour around the eastern provinces from July 30th to August 15th.
