The Radio Reloj radio station is celebrating its 61st anniversary
Since June 24, panels, radio-debates, special programs and meetings with former directors and retirees have been part of celebrations.

Encounters between correspondents were held this week and there will be several political and cultural activities to mark the date.

"Our staff is never satisfied. We have to continue to improve the quality of our broadcasts and to continue being the pen that reflects the work of the Cuban Revolution, which is our raison d'etre," affirmed Radio Reloj director Omayda Alonso.

Founded on July 1st, 1947, it turned out to be quite an event, because of the unusual fact of a news item being diffused minute by minute without journalists. Several of the speakers that founded the radio station are still live.

On March 13, 1957, it was seized by a commando of the Revolutionary Directory headed by University leader José Antonio Echeverría, as part of the attack on the Presidential Palace and, after January 1st, 1959, it began to broadcast, with immediacy, daily national and international news.

Radio Reloj is the only radio station in the world that broadcasts news and tells the time every minute, absolutely live.

Its unmistakable tick-tock has accompanied millions of Cubans over the last six decades, especially in the mornings, when we tune in to know what's happening in the island and around the world.  It's a radio station that inspires Cubans with confidence each time we say: "It's true. Radio Reloj said it."
