During the first and second stage, Sabana-Camagüey Project promoted the monitoring actions, the environmental education and also implemented diverse training projects.
Cuba is now carrying out the third stage of this project which envisages investments in the sectors previously mentioned, the restoration and improvement of the ecosystems, the creation of forests and the sponsorship of several actions in order to protect the biological diversity.
New centres have been founded to comprehensively handle the coastal areas in the municipalities of Minas, Sierra de Cubitas, Esmeralda and Nuevitas.
Mayra González, head of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in the eastern province of Camaguey, said that very shortly they will also inaugurate a centre in the seaside resort of Santa Lucia, a zone where there is a high biological diversity, particularly in the coral reef.
