Cuba Ratifies Convention on Underwater Heritage

During a ceremony held in Paris, France, and attended by officials with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural organization (UNESCO), Cuba´s Ambassador to the UN body Héctor Hernández Pardo handed over the documents.
According to Granma newspaper, Matsuura expressed his confidence that the step taken by Cuba will set an example to be followed by other nations from Latin America, the Caribbean and the rest of the world, thus favoring the implementation of the convention as soon as possible.
The Convention on Underwater Heritage will come into effect three months after its ratification by at least 20 States.
With this step, Cuba has become the 17th state to ratify the treaty.
