Cuba Promotes a strengthening movement of symphonic music
Orlando Vistel, vice president of the Cuban Music Institute told Prensa Latina of the growing symphonic movement being taught on the island.

"We have schools that prepare hundreds of young people in different instruments to join chamber orchestras and symphonic bands in every territory," he informed.

He said the institution also works to recover cultural heritage, and offered the example of the undergoing repair the National Museum of Music.

The building is in an advanced stage of remodeling and will open its doors at the end of this year or early next year.

All reference material in its archives, including centuries-old scores will be put in digital and microfilm format allowing consultants and scholars access to a wide variety of collections, he added.

The program for the preservation of museum pieces is also directed to the distribution of scores, some unpublished, composed during the 18th and 19th century in Cuba.

An example is the restoration of the Cecilia Valdes score by Gonzalo Roig in the hands of master Roberto Sanchez Ferrer who was an old friend and collaborator of the famous Cuban musician, he concluded.
