In Havana: University Chess Championship Opens

Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador and two teams from Venezuela have confirmed participation at the championship, contested by universities of the region. The event, which is organized by Cuba every two years, will be hosted by the Havana-based Higher Institute of Physical Culture.
The organizing committee announced the participation of 19 local selections from the University of Havana, the University of Information Technologies and several faculties of Sports.
Meanwhile, the round of lectures will have the participation of Uvencio Blanco, president of the Venezuelan Chess Federation; International Chess Masters Jose Luis Vilela and Gerardo Lebredo, as well as professor Jorge Luis Diaz, who will deal with postgraduate studies on Chess.
