Three weeks to go in the regular Cuban baseball season.
A hitting barrage from Las Tunas and good pitching from Ciego de Avila has the two teams tied for second in Group C, three games behind Villa Clara; while group D's second place Holguin sees its playoff hopes slip away, reports Granma daily.

There wasnt a Santiago de Cuba pitcher that could stop the troop of Ermidelio Urrutias Las Tunas who won 17-8, led by Antonio Johnson who went 3-for-5 with two doubles, including 3 RBIs in the first inning off Bicet (10-1) who had won 20 consecutive games over 448 days.

Just the opposite happened in Ciego de Avila in the pitchers duel between Holguin veteran Luis Miguel Rodriguez (9-6) and rookie Yander Guevara (6-3), decided 2-1 in the fifth inning when catcher Ciegos Lisdey Diaz connected a two-run triple. Yander allowed one walk in 7.2 innings and Jorge Longa struck out three in 1.1 to get his ninth save.

Villa Clara won both games of a double header against Granma (8-5, 4-3) backed by two long relief performances and the bat of Ariel Borrero. In the opener Yolexis Ulacia (4-5) went 5.2 innings (4 strikeouts and a walk) and in the closer Yoandri Ruiz (1-2) pitched 7.2 innings striking out the last six batters of the game. Borrero went 5-for-6 for the day with a double, homer and 4 RBIs. Alfredo Despaigne had 2 homers for Granma and now has 19 for the season.

Pinar del Rio scored a 5-4 walk-off win over Havana Province, the first team to have already clinched a playoff birth. Jorge Padron scored two runs for the winners while Raidel Hernandez drove in two and Yunieski Maya struck out the side in the eleventh. Ernest Molinet had his 15th homer for Havana.

Isla de la Juventud fell four games behind Pinar del Rio in Group A after falling to Industriales 7-2. Yoandry Urgelles led Industriales going 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs and lefthanders Yadiel Torres, Ebris Martinez and Deinys Suarez (who got the final out) combined for the victory.

Giorvis Duvergel went 4-for-5 including two home runs a double and 4 RBIs to lead Guantanamo to a 7-3 win over Camaguey. One pitcher managed to go the route on Sunday, Yovani Aragon (6-5) of Sancti Spiritus, in the 4-2 win over Matanzas. Eriel Sanchez went 3-for-4 for Sancti Spiritus including a homer.

In another game, Metropolitanos and Cienfuegos played to a 6-6 tie in 13 innings called for darkness. Osvaldo Arias hit his 17th season homer for Cienfuegos.
