George Haddad, director of the International Institute for the Higher Education in Latin America, of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, Cultural organization (UNESCO), asserted in Havana that Cuba is an example to achieve the solidarity in the higher education, which solves the problems of each place, and it is a nation of important reference for the countries of the Third World.

Such a statement is supported by the thousands of foreign scholarship holders that study in universities of the Caribbean island, and the services that the Cuban academics offer in several countries of the world.

In the Congress University 2008 that was held during five days in Havana, the solidarity and the integration were some of the topics debated in the workshop Internationalization of the Higher Education, Challenges and Opportunities, under the concept that the integration means to transform the university into a center linked to all the countries and with exchange in the entirety of the processes: teaching and university investigation, among others.

A wire from the Cuban News Agency points out that in the event the cooperation among universities was also approached, because at the moment there is an invasion of the transnational companies of the education, which try to fill the spaces of those facilities and institutions that have difficulties to register students.

Among the benefits in this topic is the existence of several regional institutons that promoted actions in the recently concluded Congress, such as the exchanges of students among the Latin American countries, boosting the relationship South-South, for the integration starting from the universities.
