Cuban Athlete Dayron Robles Recorded 7:33 Seconds, his New Supremacy in the Americas.
With a extraordinary sprint of 7:33 seconds"the best in the world in the early 2008 season"Dayron Robles improved on his national record last night in the indoor 60 meters hurdles. He is participating in the track and field meet taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany - where Cuban triple jumper Yargelis Savigne also won.

Twenty-one-year-old Robles, from Cubas Guantanamo Province, broke the 7:36 second mark made last Sunday in Stuttgart and established his supremacy in the Americas, with only three hundredths of a second from the world record, held by Britains Collin Jackson since 1994. Germanys Thomas Blascheck entered second (7:60), as while Cuban Yoel Hernández (7:67) filled out the podium.

Santiago Antúnez, Robles trainer, expressed his happiness with the accomplishment. «We are still beginning, because this guy is training very seriously, not only to win the World Indoor Championships (in Valencia in March), but to take the Olympic Games. Beijing will be a difficult, but not an impossible trail,» he said.

Equally encouraging was the jump of Yargelis Savigne, who stretched out to hit 14.77 meters, only three centimeters away from her national indoor record, achieved one year ago in that same German city.

Though making much poorer jumps, the Slovenian Marija Sestaj (14.60) and the Ukrainian Olga Saladuha (14.45) also got medals.

Havanas Anay Tejeda ran 8:04 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, overcome by four Americans; among them Lolo Jones (7:87), who won.
