The president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Parliamentarians for Release of Cuban Five

Dominican Republic, Julio Cesar Valentin, said that they will continue taking concrete steps to contribute to the release of Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero, five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters - internationally known as the Cuban Five - who have been unjustly held in US prisons since 1998 for infiltrating anti-Cuba terrorist groups in South Florida.
In a meeting with relatives of the Cuban Five, Valentin referred to the favorable atmosphere that exists in the Chamber of Deputies of his country in regards to this case and promised to work with the Catholic Church and other religious organizations in the Dominican Republic for the release of the five men.
He noted that they will also work with social and human rights organizations and with media outlets to coordinate efforts aiming at spreading the truth of the case of the Cuban Five.
The Dominican parlamentarian was accompannied by deputies Juan Compres, president of the Cuba-Dominican Republic Friendship Parliamentary Group; Agnes Berenice, of the Social Christian Reformist Party; Marino Mendoza, of the Dominican Revolutionary Party; and Jose Taveras, of the National Progressive Party.
The agenda of the visitors, who will stay on the island until next Sunday, includes meetings with local authorities and visits to places of economic, historic and social interest in the Cuban capital and in the neighboring province of Matanzas.
