Diana Balboa shows us in her exhibition
If you close your eyes you can listen to Beny, Celeste, Matamoros; decipher Silvio's guitar and Chucho's piano, choose, like in an old gramophone, the music you want feel. If you open them, you experience the magic and practically indescribable feeling of seeing music: from a danzón to a symphony, according to your whim, in the paintings Diana Balboa shows us in her exhibition "Diapasón", open till March at La Acacia Gallery, in Havana.

"To dance is another verb that Diana combines in her works. Voluptuous forms move to the beat of her pictorial pace that does stop talking with pure colors intermingled with the signs of their natural inspiration: there's freedom, motion, independence, action, deliberate exercise of pleasure... of movement¡'sher at Bailar, es otro verbo que conjuga Diana en sus trabajos. Voluptuosas formas se mueven al compás de su ritmo pictórico que no cesa de dialogar con los colores puros entremezclados con los signos de su inspiración natural: hay libertad, movimiento, independencia, acción, pausado ejercicio de placer..."

These words, written by specialist Tony Piñeira for the catalog, gather a key part of the spirit transmitted by the nearly 30 works; where the author combines figuration with abstraction touches, almost compulsory, if you take into account that it deals with an invisible subject: music, which is appreciably symbolized in forms and colors.

Tony Piñera, who shares with the artist the curatorship of the exhibition, highlights among the many things he admires in Diana "as well as the rigor, perseverance, tenacity, sense of balance in form, shades... her ethic stance of genuine Cuban artist when reflecting graphically and pictorially her experiences and in this specific case, feelings that have a deep artistic and human root".

With some twenty personal exhibitions, works in the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba and collections in ten countries, as well as the Award for National Culture, Diana Balboa jumps from engraving which marked her starts, to painting, where she accumulates the best predictions already.
