The Sixth International Congress on Higher Education 'University 2008 will take place next week in Havana.
According to Dr. Omar Gutierrez, executive secretary of the meeting, the number of professors, researches and students from Iberoamerican countries attending the Congress double the number of accreditted Cuban nationals.

He also mentioned the presence of delegations from Europe, Asia and Africa that include ministers of the sector and university rectors who will learn about the Cuban experience in the universalization of higher education.

Gutierrez announced that one of the most important sessions of the Congress will be the Sixth International Workshop of Higher Education Pedagogy, which this year will focus on the challenges and perspectives of medical degree courses.

The International Congress on Higher Education first took place in 1998 and on this occasion it will also serve to celebrate the 280th anniversary of higher education in Cuba coinciding with the foundation of the University of Havana in 1728.
