The Onelio Jorge Cardoso Centre was founded in 1998 as a literary workshop, sponsored by the Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC, after ints initials in Spanish) (National Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba), the Ministry of Culture and the Hivos Foundation. The centre helps for free the theoretical and practical formation of young narrators all over the country.
Important writers from all over the world have greeted the existence and works of this centre and given us their encouragement and affection words, among them there are: José Saramago, 1998 Nobel Price; Mario Benedetti, Eduardo Galeano, Augusto Monterroso, Abelardo Castillo, Noé Jitrik and Mempo Giardinelli.
The Onelio Centre is located in 5th avenue and 22 street, Miramar, Playa, Havana City.
