Speaking with ACN, Butler said that the creation in Havana of a Center for Children's Protection in February 2005 reflects the commitment of the island's government to the protection of children.

The expert noted that the work of this institution is done in coordination with the Cuban Health Minister, the General Attorney's Office, the courts and community social organizations.

He added that he was impressed by the quality, sensitivity and professional work of all the specialists and authorities responsible for this matter on the island.

Butler, who heads the Child Protection Development Trust since 2006, stressed that the occurrence of crimes against children in Cuba is very low compared to the rest of the world.

He pointed out that the occurrence of more than 2,700 cases of sexual abuse involving children per day in the world shows the need alert nations about the problem and to urge governments to educate their people in this respect.
