This category is held in the country by more than 200 sites and buildings, while in the eastern part of the country there are more than 40.

History and traditions are intermingled in El Cobre (The Copper), whose original name was Santiago del Prado and where in 1530 people discovered there copper mines that were exploited for more than 400 years and from which part of the industrial heritage is still preserved.

In this town -in 1731- took place one of the most important slave revolts in Cuba, an event that took place in the Monument to the Runaway Slave and inserted in the Slave Route Touristic Project.

The Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Charity of El Cobre is known worldwide. It also keeps goldsmith pieces, jewelry and parish documents.

On the other hand, the Pre-Universitary Institute Rafael María de Mendive, the former Dolores College, is found in the center of the city as one of the main examples of eclectic architecture.

The center maintains the social function that lend it its name and it is important because there studied personalities such as the brothers Fidel, Raúl and Ramón Castro and Eduardo Chibás, apart from being an example of the new Programs of the Revolution.

Both proposals include their own files and references for their evaluation in the National Monument Commission.
