Just before ending 2007, Nicolás Guillén Foundation together with Cuban Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) celebrated 40th anniversary of great poetry book "El Gran Zoo" (The Great Zoo) written by Cuban national poet Nicolás Guillén.

Just three months after celebrating Fourth Colloquium and International Festival of Music and Poetry by the name of "Motivos de Son" (Motives of Son) in Havana, the president of the foundation said to AIN that it was beautiful to remember the text of Guillén, since it is a peculiar one within his extensive literary work.

Nicolás Hernández Guillén pointed out that during conversations on "El Gran Zoo" it was also remembered 40th anniversary of another important poetry book "El libro de las maravillas de Boloña" (Wonders Book of Boloña) by Eliseo Diego, to whom was granted a Juan Rulfo award.

This book which was released in 1967, caused a great impact, mainly among young writers that received this book as youthful piece of literature, alleged the director.

Specialists and critics classify this title as one among the most modern ones, other just thought at the beginning that it was a kind of diversion, and this book was also criticized for presenting and ironic tone, but at the end it stands out because of its Guilleniana, humorous, and fresh kind of poetry.

Celebrations for 50th anniversary of releasing the book "La paloma de vuelo popular" (The Dove of Popular Flight) will take place in 2008, and this fact will be a pretext for also celebrating in March the Sixth Colloquium dedicated to Nicolás Guillén, that will include extensive studies on this literary work, which is a literary legacy of his exile.
