As every year, January has the mark of the Cuban Casa de las Américas and its prestigious awards that will be 49 years old and will have between the 21st and the 31st of January 2008 in Havana its exchange journeys between creators, work readings and the delivery of the awards. This time will take part in the competition unpublished books in the genres of poetry, stories and essays of a social - historic topic of natural or naturalised Latin American authors. In the essay category can compete writers from any other precedence when their work is about Latin America or the Caribbean.

According to the call, Brazilian authors with non fiction books written and published in Portuguese during 2006 - 2007 will be able to compete as will be also able to compete Caribbean writers with unpublished works in French or Creole, written in the period 2004 - 2007.

Even though the jury has not yet been announced, it will meet in Havana in January.

Casa de las Américas will deliver three honorific awards, the José Lezama Lima in poetry, the José María Arguedas in narrative and the Ezequiel Martínez Estrada in essay, to relevant works written by authors of the region and that are nominated by a committee created with that purpose, indicates Prensa Latina.

Last January these honour awards were given to writers from Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Cuba.
