Canary Islands Pays Homage to Mother of Cuban National Hero
A bust of Leonor Perez, the mother of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, has been unveiled in a downtown park in the Canary Island's locality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The bust, produced by sculptor Telvia Martin, was installed at the Garcia Sanabria Park to pay honor to the mother of the Apostle of Cuban Independence, who was born in that city on December 17, 1828.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is also a Spanish province from the Autonomous Community of Canary Islands, which is made up of the islands of La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and El Hierro, as well as a group of adjacent islets such as Salmor, Garachico and Anaga.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Cuban consul in Tenerife, Enrique Alberto Silvestre, Mayor Miguel Zerolo and several local officials.
