Cuba celebrates Monday International Human Rights Day with an honorable and extensive record in cooperating with all human rights mechanisms.

Today's celebration has its origin in 1950 and this year the commemoration starts in 2008 with the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration for Human Rights.

A note from the Cuban permanent mission at the UN, quoted by the Latin American News Agency, states that there are no violations of human rights in the Caribbean island that justify attention from Geneva or any other multilateral stage.

The text will reinforce cooperation with universal and non-selective human rights mechanisms, in accordance to the current circumstances of the disappearance of the anti-Cuban HR Commission.

Cuba has demonstrated with concrete facts, always, demanding the strictest respect, its unequivocal will to open dialogue in all issues, included that of human rights, the text stresses.

The Cuban declaration also refers to the approval of a resolution in the Third Commission of the General Assembly on November 16 that ratified the construction of the Human Rights Council.

"Dignity and justice for everyone" will be the slogan of the commemoration in 2008 for the anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights.
