Judo
China and Cuba were the gold and silver medals at the Women's World Judo Championship while the bronze went to Japan and Mongolia that ousted Russia and Algeria, respectively.

Cuba defeated Japan in the morning preliminaries but lost the gold in the afternoon to China at Chaoyang Gym.

Yanet Bermoy (48 kg) and Driulis Gonzalez (63) defeated Gao Feng and Xu Li, respectively, by points while Yurisleidis Lupetey (57) scored a tie with Xu Yan.

The other team members, Susel Mustelier (52), Yurisel Laborde (78), and Idalis Ortiz (over 78) lost to their combats and Yalennis Castillo (70) lost to Wang Luan by ipon.

Cuban coach Ronaldo Veitia said the event is part of the training program for Beijing 2008, but next on the agenda are the November 24-25 tournament in Qingdao, China, South Korea in December, and Jigoro Kano Cup on December 8-9 in Japan.
