Special investigator of United Nations highlated Cuba's effort on the right of food

Jean Ziegler, UN special investigator on the right to eat, highlighted Cuban efforts in this matter Tuesday, and earlier had criticized the nearly half century US blockade of the island.

During a meeting with Vice President Carlos Lage, Ziegler noted that Cuba did more than halve the number of undernourished, part of the Millennium Goals set for 2015.

Lage indicated dissatisfaction with results and said they are working to increase basic nutrients to the entire population, as well as nutritional reinforcements for less protected people.

Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque explained that Ziegler's 10-day visit is the first of other steps Cuba intends to carry out in this regard.

"We hope that next year another UN rapporteur can visit us. So this can be done systematically and continuously, in an atmosphere in which there is no discriminatory treatment against Cuba", the diplomatic chief emphasized.

We have a strong commitment to implement food rights, not only in the island, but in all the nations of the planet, Perez Roque declared.
