Cuba churches are free

The world president of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pastor Jan Paulsen, noted the full freedom of Cuba's religious community to meet and hold services.

In an exclusive interview to Prensa Latina, Paulsen pointed out that, in Cuba, the Church has full freedom for prayer.

"I am glad I came personally to this country to see, because now I can go around the world and deny the belief of some that religious practices in Cuba are persecuted and impossible," the Adventist leader affirmed.

"What I feel and see in Cuba is that our church is alive and strong," the Pastor expressed, while noting the natural beauty of the Caribbean island and its population that he considered kind and hospitable.

Referring to the development of the Seventh day Adventists in this nation, Paulson highlighted its rapid growth in the past few years and explained that it is a young church because most of its members are young very enthusiastic people.

The religious leader is participating here in an annual meeting of the Inter American Division, one of the 13 associations in the world, of which Cuba is a part since 1907 but had not hosted since 1945.

He further pointed out that 62 years is a long time and that is why the time has come for Adventist leaders of other nations to meet and learn what their Cuban counterparts have done.

The Inter American Division currently has 15 unions, 100 associations or delegations, 10,000 organized churches and more than three million members baptized.
