Meetings with newly elected Delegates

The 15,236 delegates that were recently elected in all of the island's constituencies are now exercising their right to express their view on the presidency of their future Municipal Assembly of the People's Power (Parliament).

This is part of the consultation process required of Municipal Candidacy Commissions, which, on November 16th, once Assemblies have been constituted, should present the candidacy plan to occupy the posts of President and Vice-president of these local organs of the state power.

National Candidacy Commission member Hector Raul Fajardo Marin told the press that, as part of this consultation process, municipal authorities and people from work places and schools linked to the newly elected are also being asked for their criteria, for the purpose of making thorough and integral evaluations. "It's a great responsibility," commented Fajardo Marin.

To express well founded opinions could be difficult for many of these delegates, since most of them don't know each other. Therefore, the Candidacy Commission should provide them with the information they need to express their opinion during the consultation process.

According to the Electoral Law, the candidacy plan to fill the posts of President and Vice-president in each municipality comprises of candidates selected from among the Assembly delegates, but the proposal of a delegate can be rejected if that's the decision of half plus one of the delegates present at the meeting.

Secret voting will take place only after the approval of candidacies, and candidates will be considered elected if they get more than 50% of the valid votes.
