Angolan Presidents Impressions of His Meeting with Fidel Castro

Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos called the meeting with his Cuban counterpart Fidel Castro "historical."

"I was able to see him recovering; he is strong and enthusiastic. I conveyed to him the wishes of the Angolan people for his speedy recovery," Dos Santos told the press at the tourist resort located 140 kilometers east of Havana.

Dos Santos said he also conveyed the love and friendship of Angolans whom he said are very fond of the Cuban leader.

President Dos Santos recalled the aid given by Cuba to Angola in the 1970s when there was extreme violence and a plot to defeat the Movement for the Liberation of Angola and prevent independence from being proclaimed in that country.

"I explained to him the motives of my current visit to Cuba, the desire to increase bilateral cooperation and expand ties in our friendship that is long-dated and solid."

"We leave Cuba very satisfied. The results of this visit are very positive," Dos Santos indicated.

"The programs to be carried out will strengthen friendship and widen cooperation between our countries in the economic, financial, scientific, cultural and sports fields, to the benefit of Angola and Cuba."
