Cuban Soccer Team finishes undefeated
Having already won a ticket to the next round of the Beijing Olympics qualifying tournaments, Cubas under-23 national soccer team completed its third straight victory, a 6-0 win over the Cayman Islands, bringing the teams goal total to 20 in 3 games.

Roberto Linares had three of his teams six goals on Thursday and became the Caribbean leader with seven. Adonis Ramos, Leonel Duarte (who reached six) and Armando Coroneaux accounted for the other scoring. Linares stellar performance in the tournament shows promise of someday becoming a star forward for the Cuban national squad.

Earlier in the day, Puerto Rico beat Bermudas 2-0 to finish second behind Cuba in Group C.

"Either Cuba is playing very well or the level of competition was very low; hopefully the first," said one of the fans that showed up to root for the islands team at Havanas Pedro Marrero Stadium.

The squad coached by Raul Gonzalez Triana will have a much tougher test in October when it plays a three way tournament with host Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Port of Spain. Trinidad and Tobago played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

The winner of the triangular match up will move on to the final round of eight teams from North and Central America, and the Caribbean, which will provide two slots to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
