The book
The book "Volver sobre Mis Pasos", a selection of letters by late Cuban moviemaker Tomas Gutierrez Alea, was presented on Monday in Madrid, according to the General Society of Authors (SGAE).

The book launch and news conference was attended by the filmmaker's widow, actress Mirtha Ibarra, who compiled the letters in the book, prologue writer Juan Antonio Garcia and publisher Maria Silveyro.

The Foundation recalled that Gutierrez Alea (Havana, 1928-1996), who was an artist committed to society and time, directed more than 20 motion pictures, documentaries and short films, including "Histories of the Revolution (1960) and "Memories of Underdevelopment" (1968).

In conjunction with Juan Carlos Tabio, Gutierrez Alea directed "Strawberry and Chocolate" (1993) and "Guantanamera" (1995).

Ibarra made a compilation of Titon's letters, showing aspects of the creative life of the moviemaker, who was always concerned about his people's cultural identity.

The book, published by Ediciones Autor, the publishing house of SGAE's Fundacion Autor, will be launched at the Meeting Hall of that institution.

It will also be presented at the Dore Cinema, of the Spanish Film Library, where its director, Jose Maria Prado, Buñuel Institute President Manuel Gutierrez and moviemaker Manuel Perez will speak about the Cuban filmmaker.
