Season of mexican culture to open in Cuba
The Cuban Ministry of Culture, the Office of the Historian of Havana and the Mexican embassy in the island, have organized a program of activities to celebrate the 21st Mexican Culture Season 2007 to take place throughout the island from September 12 to October 5.

The event includes art exhibitions from Zacateca, the Mexican state to which the cultural season is dedicated this year. Cuba has also held a program of activities since July 6 paying homage to outstanding Mexican painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

The Grand Theatre in Havana will host the opening ceremony of the event and a gala night to inaugurate the 9th National Contest of Mexican Song on September 12th.

Likewise, concerts of traditional and popular music from Zacateca are scheduled to take place in the Benito Juarez Museum, the Plaza de Armas and the Old Havana Amphitheatre.

From September 13 to 16, the Zacatecas Folkloric Dance Company and the bands Tambora Zacatecana and Jaraneros de Nochistlán will delight the Cuban people with their dance and music.

The agenda also includes ceramics, photo and engraving exhibitions which will be open to the public from September 13 in Benito Juarez Museum.

As part of the group of activities to pay tribute to Mexican painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, the Grand Theatre of Havana will premiere on September 21 the play "Frida" performed by Cuban actress Ofelia Medina.

For its part, Havana's Fine Arts Museum will exhibit its "Homage to Mexico" collection made up of works by David Alfaro Siqueiros, José Clemente Orozco and Diego Rivera.

The Cuban Cinematheque will join the celebrations by screening 12 Mexican films -including 5 feature films, two shorts, and five documentaries.
