The iron and steel company Antillana de Acero, in the Cuban capital, has benefited from investments to increase production.
As part of the work, a new electric-arc furnace that reduces the casting time by 30 minutes is being tested.
The investments at Antillana de Acero will double production to 500,000 tons during a five-year period.
According to experts, the company will supply 20 percent of exports in Cuba's iron and steel industry.
The first modernization of the plant took place in 1993, when a continuous casting system was installed and two laminators were remodeled.
