Veteran cubans athletes ready for World Track Championships
Veteran Cuban athletes Yumileidi Cumba and Sonia Bisset will be participating in their seventh world champion track and field competitions this coming Saturday at the 11th World Cups games in Osaka, Japan.

Cumba, a 32-year-old from Cubas far eastern province of Guantanamo, is the reining Olympic shot put monarch since her performance in Athens in 2004. She premiered as a world competitor in Gotenburgo, Sweden, in 1995, where she barely achieved 15.80 meters and was unable to make the finals.

In Seville, Spain, four years later, she took sixth place with a 18.44 meter toss. This was followed by her participation in Edmonton, Canada in 2001, where she came in eighth - though with an improved throw of 18.73 meters.

Two seasons later, she was eliminated in Paris with a 17.95 meter throw, and came in sixth in Helsinki 2005, with a shot of 18.64 meters.

As for Sonia Bisset, the 36-year-old javelin thrower from Santiago de Cuba won a brass medal with a 64.69 meter throw in Edmonton 2001, although the mark was distant from her the personal best 67.67 meters.

In addition, she finished in sixth position in Athens, Seville and Paris, with marks of 63.80, 63.52 and 60.17 meters, respectively. Recently, in Helsinki, she came in seventh with a 61.75 meter throw.
