The Madrid-based International Puppeteers Union (UNIMA) awarded the Gorgorito prize to Cuban playwright Freddy Artiles.

The awards ceremony will be held on August 30 in Madrid, during the Fourth Summer Course for Puppeteers, organized by UNIMA, in which Artiles is one of the professors.

Artiles was selected amongst five nominees by a prestigious jury. Artiles, who holds a Doctor's degree in Arts, currently teaches at the Higher Institution of Arts in Havana. He is one of the most prominent Cuban experts on children's theater and has published several books on the subject that are required reading.
