Cuban Director Gutiérrez Alea honoured at Panamanian Film Festival
The 4th Panamanian International Film Festival is to pay tribute to late Cuban film director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea with a retrospective of his work, said the event's organisers on Monday.

Recognised as one of the founders of Cuban cinema, Gutiérrez Alea wrote and directed over twenty films and documentaries since he began his career in the late 1950s, until his death in 1996.

Several of his works are considered classics of Cuban cinema, including Memories of Underdevelopment (1971), Strawberry and Chocolate (1995) and Death of a Bureaucrat (1966).

The festival will take place from the 3rd to the 8th of September in Panama City. Films from all over North and South America, Europe and Asia will be shown. A photographic exhibition on Cuban urbanism will also feature.
