Russia beats Cuba in Volleyball Grand Prix
Cuban women's volleyball team felt Sunday in fierce struggle before a powerful Russia, 3 sets to 2, in the Grand Prix volleyball tournament taking place in this city.

After losing the first two sets by a tight margin, the Cubans recovered to win the third set and were clearly dominant in the fourth, only to fall 15-11 in the tie-break. This is the second loss in the tournament after falling before the United States last Friday.

Center Nancy Carrillo was top scorer with 23 points, followed by Yumilka Ruiz with 18 for the Cubans, while Ekaterina Gamova scored the most point for the Russians, with 16.

In another match played today, the United States overpowered Kazakhstan, 3 to 1.

Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, Poland crushed the Dominican Republic 3-0 and Italy beat China in a tight game 3-2. In the group playing in Tokyo, the Netherlands beat Chinese Taipei 3-0.

Positions table presents Brazil as the only unbeaten team in six matches, followed by Russia (5-1) and the United States, Italy and Cuba, all with four wins and two games lost.
