Fifth consecutive win for Cuba in Baseball Tournament in Rotterdam

The Cuban offense was led by Yosvani Peraza who erased a three run deficit with a grand slam that put Cuba ahead 4-3 in the fifth inning. Then, in the 13th frame, he drove in the decisive run with a sacrifice fly. In all Peraza drove in five of Cuba's six runs.

Alfredo Despaigne and Donald Duarte also contributed to the Cuban victory both with four hits in seven at-bats.

The win was for reliever Arleys Sanchez, who threw five scoreless innings in which he yielded only two hits and struck out five.

In the other result of the day, the United States smashed Japan 10-0.

After six days, Cuba tops the table with five victories in as many outings. The United States is second with a 3-2 win-loss record and the Netherlands is third with 2-2. Finally, Chinese Taipei (2-3) and Japan (0-5) close the standings.

On Wednesday, Cuba takes on Japan while the Netherlands take on Chinese Taipei.

The tournament is being played using a double round robin format with the top two squads facing each other for the title on August 12th.
