To launch in Cuba call for the XXIX Movie Festival

The presidency of the XXXIX New Latin American Movie Festival launched the call for this event, the most important one of the seventh art in the region, which will take place from December 4th until 14, 2007.
"The inscriptions are already open in the categories of cinema, unpublished scripts and posters from the 29th International New Latin American Movie Festival which will be celebrated in Havana from December 4th to 14th," declared the organizers in a press note.
"You may download the text of the announcement available in Spanish, English and Portuguese on a pdf format by accessing the Festivals web site www.habanafilmfestival.com", added this same source.
"The inscription of the pieces is already open online and the deadline for the inscriptions is on September 15th, 2007," they concluded.
The New Movie Festivals is a very important cultural event for the movie-makers all over the world, because in its meeting there is a purely artistic atmosphere, which is something very unusual in a world more and more turned towards market and profits.
Since it was inaugurated in 1978, personalities from the cinema such as Fernando Birri, Nelson Pereira Dos Santos, Manuel Barbachano Ponce, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, Gabriel García Márquez, Francis Ford Coppola, Ken Loach and Gian María Volonté have gone through Havana, its venue.
There are other authors such as Marcelo Pyñeiro, Gabriel Retes, Marcos Bechis, Pablo Trapero, Silvio Caiozzi, Julio Meden, Sergio Cabrera, Francisco Lombardi, Lucrecia Martel, Todd Solonz, Todd Haynes, Benito Zambrano and Guillermo Arriaga who grew in these events.
On the other hand, there were important movies which had their origins in the Latin American Festival, such is the case of Fresa y chocolate (Strawberry and Chocolate), by Gutiérrez Alea-Tabío; Profundo carmesí (Deep Crimson), by Arturo Ripstein; Río negro (Black River), by Atahualpa Luchy and Iluminados por el fuego (Illuminated by Fire), by Tristán Bauer.
The general atmosphere of this movie party that becomes a popular party lets those present to feel "as if they were at home," as important visitors such as Harry Belafonte, Miguel Littín, Jonathan Demme and Eliseo Subiela told Prensa Latina.
