Cuba won gold and silver in shot put at the Pan American Games

The event was won by Misleydis Gonzalez of Cuba with a distance of 18.83 metres. Her countrywoman Yumileidi Cumba claimed second with a throw of 18.28 metres.
The bronze went to Trinidad and Tobago yesterday from shot putter Cleopatra Borel-Brown, she threw a distance of 18.22 metres and was only bested by the two Cubans. American Jillian Camarena was fourth.
