Three Cuban movies to compete in Peru

Three Cuban producers from different generations will compete in the next Internacional movie festival in Lima, Peru, from next August 2nd-9th, as announced by sources from the ICAIC (Cuban Movie Institute) in the island.

Fernando Pérez, director of Suite Habana and La vida es silbar will compete with ¨Madrigal¨, a film in which he expresses once again his talent and formal and aesthetical views as well as his capacity for assuming artistic challenges.

The veteran Manuel Pérez is to compete with ¨Páginas del diario de Mauricio¨ (¨Pages from Mauricios diary¨), which deals very smartly with the difficult 1990s, when Cuban economy had problems.

The novel Pavel Giroud will compete with ¨La edad de la peseta¨ (¨That awkward age¨), which has been awarded in the festival of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, last March.

There will be four personalities, which will be payd tribute to in Lima: the Brazilian actor José Wilker, the Spanish actress Mercedes Sampietro, and the scriptwritter Manuel Pérez Estremera and the Cuban producers Camilo Vives.

The Peruvian capital will hola more than 100 full-length feature movies distributed over the three oficial sections in competition.
