Pan American Games

Rio de Janeiro, July 23 Rio-2007 Organizing Committee (CoRio) confirmed the principle of fair play in sports and union of the people on Monday in the 15th Pan American Games, and warned of firm measures for any action to the detriment of a friendly atmosphere.

CoRio withdrew credentials from two regional sports officials from Brazil for their responsibility in incidents on Sunday during the female judo finals.

The decision was adopted in the wake of an investigation of reports from authorities of Riocentro Sports Complex about the behavior of Francisco Neto and Eduardo Costa, representatives of regional judo federations.

The incidents took place during the 52-kg judo fight for the gold medal between Brazilian Erika Miranda and Cuban Sheila Espinosa, which ended in a decision by the referee favoring Espinosa.

In the wake of the Cuban judo fighter's victory, an encouraged part of the public threw objects at the Dominican referee and at members of the Cuban delegation, causing delays in the tournament schedule.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee suspended the two sports officials involved in the incidents for four years, including the Pan American Games of Guadalajara 2011.
