Just back from Rio de Janeiro where they won medals in cycling, Yosmani Poll and Lisandra Guerra inaugurated different projects here on Sunday in a salute to the upcoming July 26, National Rebellion Day commemoration.
Pedro Betancourt, first secretary of the Communist Party for the province, accompanied the athletes as well as Nilo Diaz Fundora, president of the provincial legislature, and other local leaders.
In the municipalities of Perico and Colon, ten new houses were presented to the families of doctors currently serving in Venezuela. For 2007, 200 renovated or new homes are scheduled to be completed in this town for physicians working abroad.
In Colon, a new Provincial Courtroom was inaugurated as well as a workshop for repairs on the new energy-saving home appliances, a cafeteria and a local genetics center, an important health facility that will benefit several municipalities.
The genetic studies will be carried out at the center with state-of-the-art technology.
Thousands of women from Colon as well as Jaguey Grande, Calimete, Los Arabos, Perico and Marti will avoid what previously had been the longer trip to the provincial genetics center in the city of Matanzas.
Betancourt said the health facility will benefit mother-child care and he praised the work of the construction workers in Colon
