Miguel Ángel Bideaux García: dean of the art instructors

His main gift is teaching music. He has been devoting his life to this profession, doing it with the integrity and modesty that better describe the good teacher. Everybody say that Miguel Ángel Bideaux García is the dean of the art instructors.

In his modest classroom, located in Sagua de Tánamo municipality, Miguel sees -with great proud- the way his students develop, while caressing the musical instruments or erasing the green board full with musical notes.

"Not everybody has the patience to teach, I like teaching Music because it gives me the possibility of developing peoples sensibility. Children are more disciplined, more interested in learning about Music; they leave school and come here to enjoy this activity." "Ive been successful with those that are not so good, but perseverant. Sometimes, the best students are egocentric and don't worry about the every day teaching, but tenacity makes them success.

There were moments in which Ive focused on an individual, but later on, I understood this is not fruitful and, little by little, I have been acquiring a personal philosophy about teaching Music." "I couldve been a musician, but I love teaching. I like to see my students do what Ive taught them to do. I don't earn -as much as some of my students- two or three thousand pesos per month, but I have the great satisfaction of transmitting my knowledge about this arts to others." "Ive been successful at times, and Ive also failed at others.

Ive had very good students whove quit my classes, and that hurts a lot. I like to get along well with the students parents; I discuss with them the best options for their children, and they have felt pleased about my classes." "The musical group "Son de Sagua", integrated by children and young, is very valuable, with a very wide repertoire. They have been trained in this modest classroom."

"Ive had my own contradictions, which is good in this field, because Music and Arts are based on these. There have been moments when Ive put my hand in the pocket to fix something at this twenty-five year old classroom, and show the students that a true musician loves his instrument with great passion." "An art instructor should be mainly a revolutionary, like his profession and have certain artistic aptitudes.

This is not the work of a bricklayer, who builds with bricks and cement, but with the soul, shaking the spirit and promoting the talent." Old and new students from the Higher Arts Institute (ISA, in Spanish), members of important Cuban musical groups visit this man and ask him questions, as if they were doing it to old comrades. Between smiles and demands, Miguel Ángel caresses with sweetness the musical instruments, while drawing on the board the rare and wonderful sign of teaching.
