Rio de Janeiro, Jul 16 Olympic champion Angel Valodia Matos won today the first gold medal for Cuba in the taekwondo tournament of the Pan American Games, after crushing favorite contender James Moontsari of the US, 7-0.

Matos opened the competition in the less than 80 kilos category by defeating Carlos Isidoro of Brazil by 6-1, then went on to vanquish Guyanese David Rajjab (4-1) and in semifinals over Mexican Jose Luis Ramirez (3-1) who was silver medal winner at Santo Domingo-2003.

The bronze went to Ramirez and Chinedum Osuji, from Trinidad and Tobago.
