Triple jumpers Dailenis Alcántara and Yosleidis Rivalta gave Cuba a crown and a silver medal on Thursday in the second day of competitions of the 5th International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Youth Championships that are underway in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Alcántara dominated the women's Triple Jump event with 13.63 meters while Rivalta posted a personal season best of 13.32 to give the island its first medals in this contest.

The bronze medal was for Maja Bratki of Slovenia with her 12.96 effort.

Also on Thursday, Reinier Mejías only needed one attempt to qualify for the finale of the men's Hammer event with a 73.29-meter throw. It was the second best mark in the qualification phase, only behind American Conor McCullough who also needed one attempt to advance to Friday's finale with a personal best of 75.98.

Meanwhile, on Friday morning, Yuliet Hernández and Yarisleidi Ford qualified for the final round of the women's Hammer Throw event with 58.45 and 53.89 meters, respectively.
